trezor.io/start — Official Trezor® Setup & Quickstart Guide

Simple, secure steps to initialize your Trezor hardware wallet and begin managing your crypto safely.

trezor.io/start

Welcome — this quickstart shows how to use trezor.io/start to set up a Trezor® device (Model One, Model T) the right way. Follow these steps to unpack, verify, initialize, and secure your hardware wallet. Read each step carefully and always prefer official channels: type trezor.io/start in your browser rather than clicking unsolicited links.

Why choose Trezor and trezor.io/start

Trezor hardware wallets store your private keys offline and require physical confirmation to sign transactions. The official start page at trezor.io/start provides the latest setup instructions, downloads, and safety warnings. Using the official page reduces phishing risk and ensures you have current firmware and software recommendations.

1Purchase & inspect

Buy only from authorized retailers or the official Trezor shop. Inspect packaging for tamper evidence and ensure the device arrives sealed. If any tamper signs exist, contact vendor support rather than using the device.

2Visit trezor.io/start

On a trusted computer, manually enter trezor.io/start. From there download the official Trezor Suite (desktop) or follow the web/app instructions shown. Avoid downloading from third-party mirrors.

3Initialize your device

Connect your Trezor and follow the on-device prompts. Choose create new wallet unless you are restoring from an existing recovery. Set a PIN when prompted — select a PIN that is memorable for you but not easily guessable.

Write down and protect your recovery seed

During setup, the device will display a recovery seed (12–24 words). Write these words in order on the supplied recovery card — do not store them digitally, never photograph them, and never share them with anyone. The recovery seed is the ultimate key to your funds; if lost or leaked, your funds can be recovered by anyone who has it.

Software, firmware & updates

Use the Trezor Suite app or the official web interface recommended at trezor.io/start. Keep your device firmware up to date via the official updater in Trezor Suite. Firmware updates patch security issues — but always verify update prompts come from the official Trezor Suite and confirm updates on the device screen.

Daily use: accounts, receiving & sending

Add accounts in Trezor Suite for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other supported chains. When receiving, always verify the receiving address on your device display. When sending, prepare the transaction in the app then confirm the exact destination address and amount on your Trezor device — physical confirmation is the key anti-phishing control.

Advanced & optional protections

  • Use a passphrase (hidden 25th word) to create an additional layer of protection — but understand that losing a passphrase means losing access to those accounts.
  • Consider metal backup tools for seed durability against fire/water.
  • Split funds across multiple wallets for risk management.

Lost device or recovery process

If your Trezor is lost or destroyed, get a new compatible device and choose the recover wallet option during initialization. Carefully enter the words from your written recovery seed in the correct order. Do not enter your seed into any website, only into a trusted Trezor device during recovery.
